Dear Campers,
Welcome to Band Camp for Adult Musicians 2023 at Juniata College in Huntington, PA. Since our last notes together in June at Allegheny College with John Fleming conducting the “Armed Forces Salute '' up until to today, the business element of BCFAM has been through a complete overhaul. During the past few months the Board of Directors, our conductors, Jim Seidel, Jim Latten and myself have worked together to maintain the musical excellence and integrity that BCFAM is known.
The biggest change is that Band Camp for Adult Musicians is now ours. Each and every band camper plays an integral part of our organization's success. In the past, whether we were at Edinboro University or at Allegheny College, BCFAM was run through that school's Conference and Event Services. All financial business was conducted through them. We had no control over the financial aspect of camp.
Over the past months we have acquired legal advice and services to create Band Camp For Adult Musicians as an independent organization including our filing of a non-profit 501(c)(3) with the IRS. We are waiting for the final paperwork to arrive, but we have made the decision to move forward with registration. By becoming our own entity we now have control of all aspects of camp.By becoming a non-profit organization, we have control of our finances. This includes being eligible for grants and to accept charitable donations to help defray the costs of camp in the future.
So while BCFAM has not changed in its mission to provide high quality musical experiences for its campers, our expenses have changed. The biggest expense at Juniata College is the facilities costs. You will notice that this increase is reflected in the cost of tuition. The Board of Directors and I understand that this is an increase from the past tuition rates. This is a building and growing year. It is our hope that with the help of grants and donations, we will be able to decrease the tuition costs in the future and at the same time be able to give staff a well deserved raise.
In reality we are renting facilities from Juniata College. Room and board prices are dictated by Juniata College. Food service is more expensive at Juniata, however I know that you will enjoy the high quality and modern facilities along with the menu CHOICES! Here is definitely where the motto “You get what you pay for” applies.
Housing
In regards to housing, there are two dorms that we will be using. Please use these links to look at the pictures and descriptions of the dorms.
https://www.juniata.edu/offices/res-life/res-halls/east.php
https://www.juniata.edu/off.../res-life/res-halls/nathan.php
There are limited kitchens in both of the dorms, so plan accordingly with what you need for a meal plan.
East Hall does not have an elevator and is set up as double rooms-2 people share a room. There is a bathroom/shower in each suite. There are suites available for 4/8 people. I will do my best to allow everyone a room to themselves, however if there is someone you do not mind sharing a room with, please let me know. If you are able to navigate stairs with no issues, please let me know. I would like to reserve rooms on the first floor for those who are stair challenged.
Nathan Hall does have an elevator. It is set up as singles with a shared community bathroom/showers.
If you do not wish to stay in the dorms, here is a list of accommodations provided by Juniata College.

Travel
Traveling to Juniata will not be as easy as Meadville was. Huntingdon, PA is NOT off a major interstate, but nestled in the Allegheny Mountains. If you are driving, do not trust your gps. It may take you on the shortest route, which could also be the most dangerous through dirt roads and steep hills. Follow the driving directions provided in the link below. It is my advice that if you travel by plane go to University Park Airport in State College. It may cost more, but will save you considerable time. I have lined up friends and family to be shuttles, so please let me know if you need a ride to camp. For more information and directions go to:
